This patented technology has been utilized for over 20 years in the commercial sector but is now available for home use through Filter My Power.
Until today, power quality devices for homes had previously focused solely on protecting equipment from extreme events. Extreme events created by lightning, utility switching, transformer failure, and large faults. These extreme events typically fall either 20% above or below the peaks of the sine wave as seen in the graph below. Today's electronics, computers, and digital equipment create pollution on the waveform. This dirty power rarely exceeds the 20% “envelope”, which typical surge protection is designed to capture. The process of converting the voltage from AC to DC, and inverting DC to AC, are responsible for generating 85% of the power pollution. Standard surge protection devices do not respond to these disturbances and allow them through the system and into your expensive electronics.
Filter My Power's patented waveform correction technology is the only device that attacks a voltage spike or surge as it begins to rise. It focuses on removing high frequency noise and tracking the waveform, while filtering all of the pollution generated by continuous power conversion. It converts this pollution into heat within the unit rather than relying on the ground, other system conductors, or even loads to provide the required attenuation. This eliminates harmful and unusable energy from your system. This provides protected, conditioned and transient free power to your electrical and electronic equipment, ensuring your return on investment.
The 2020 NEC (National Electric Code) has made surge protection required for service replacements and upgrades. With a new service, service upgrade, or service replacement, there must now be a type 1 (Meter Socket) or type 2 (Main Panel) surge protector installed.
The NEC is the safety standard for electrical equipment and wiring installations for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The purpose of the NEC is to protect people from electrical hazards, as well as to keep the property safe from things like electrical fires. The NEC is adopted by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency), and is revised every three years.
Surge Protection is protection for your devices, appliances, computers, solar panels, etc. throughout your entire home from surges (an increase of electrical voltage) that can occur outside the home from things like a lightning strike on a utility line, work being done on the utility line, a storm that destroys the power lines, falling trees, etc.
Adding an appropriate surge protection AND waveform correction device at the electrical service entrance is the first step to protect any residence or business from external sources of electrical surges and spikes.
If you have temporary power for your home (i.e., a generator), this causes power fluctuation. A home has AFCIs (arc fault circuit interrupters), and GFCIs (ground fault circuit interrupters), to protect people from shock, electrocution, and electrical fires. You want your devices protected by a whole house surge protection device, such as the type 2 SPDs, to protect you from electrical fires and hazards.
According to the Electric Power Research Institute and the Insurance Information Institute:
People often think that power surges are only a result of lightning strikes – when in truth, small, everyday power surges are far more common. In fact, power surges are often caused by the equipment right inside or nearby the house, or by events such as switching on the utility power grid. Protecting electronic systems in residences is a priority, and the new 2020 NEC requirements will have a strong positive effect, reducing the risk of damage to sensitive electronic systems in residential installations. Type 2 SPD’s, installed at the service entrance, form the first barrier against electrical surges entering the house from the outside world and the damage that they can cause. For particularly sensitive or important systems, such as burglar alarms, video security, and HVAC systems, additional steps may be required.
Protect your home or business with an DUAL purpose device that will not only provide you with surge protection, as required by the new code, but also waveform correction, to provide your home of business with clean power. Don’t be fooled by devices that only provide surge protection, make sure you are protected AND cleaning all of the energy entering your home or building. Trust in Filter My Power's surge & waveform correction technology.
